The starting point

The PROMOPÊCHE programme, funded by the European Union in partnership with German cooperation (GIZ) and Spanish cooperation, ran for three years in Mauritania. This large programme involved hundreds of people and several strands: setting up a cannery, building a fish market, and creating a seawater pool, among others.

As the programme came to a close, the institutions behind it needed to document, organise and tell the story of everything that had been done in a visual format an international audience could follow. The challenge: condensing years of work, cross-sector action and local impact into a coherent 30-minute documentary , in French and in Arabic, despite difficult terrain and local cultural diversity.

The outcome

With this film, the donors were able to present the whole PROMOPÊCHE programme clearly, humanly and in an organised way. The documentary has become a key communication tool for showing the results to an international audience, while paying tribute to the local people and their commitment.
